Danbert Nobacon & Kira Wood-Cramer in Belper!

Tuesday Sept 10th 2019 at 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm

Queens Head, 29 Chesterfield Road,  Belper.

Danbert Nobacon (with Kira Wood-Cramer), Phil Doleman and Chris Butler; the three shared gigs together previously but not since since 2007, and at The Queen's Head , this line-up appears for the first time since 2006!...

DANBERT NOBACON:

Freak music legend, author, artist, performer and former Anarchist pop band Chumbawamba member, now lives and works in, and out of, Twisp WA in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in North Central Washington USA. He last performed a UK tour in 2007 and last performed in Belper, Derbyshire in 2006. It's been a while, but he's back, and with Kira Wood-Cramer to make for a musically compelling duo.

PHIL DOLEMAN:

Phil’s love of vintage blues, hokum, old-time, and jug band music shines through as he blows the dust off obscure old songs with his intricate picking and driving rhythms on both resonator ukulele and 5-string banjo.

CHRIS BUTLER:

“(Chris Butler has) developed into a confident, engaging and quirky singer-songwriter amalgamating influences from music-hall and English folk, enlivened with an unquenched punk rock spirit… Butler still managers to nail some home truths, offer some sound advice and wrap it all up in some welcoming tunes.” R2 magazine

Belper’s Lost Industries Walk

This circular walk around Belper looks at the various lost industries of the world's first cotton mill town. It begins with the cotton mills built by the Strutt family at the very beginning of the Industrial Revolution, with a slight diversion to include the picturesque weir on the river, followed by a look at the houses the family built for their workers. From there, the walk looks at the nail-making industry that pre-dated the arrival of the cotton mills, plus the other industries which once provided employment for the town, including hosiery, confectionery, chemicals and engineering.

Distance: 2.8 miles. Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours. Price: £5.00

Start point: The Triangle (junction of A6 Bridge Street and A517 Bridgefoot),

Belper, Derbyshire. – Start time: 10:00am.

Belper’s Wartime Secret Walk

This circular walk looks at Belper's little-known wartime secrets. During the Second World War, Belper played a key role in the Allied victory. However, as those "in the know" never really talked about what they were doing, many people today have no idea of just how important a place it was. Even many of those living in the town at the time have no idea of what was happening right under their noses. This walk tells the story of the secret wartime work that took place in Belper and visits the sites involved.

Distance: 3.5 miles. Duration: 2.5 hours. Price: £5.00

Start point: Shortlands Car Park, Chesterfield Road (opposite St Peter's Church),

Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 1FB. – Start time: 10:00am.
