Belper Pubs Past and Present Heritage Walk

Highlights

Step back in time to the Inns and Taverns of the Town to discover their historic past and entertaining stories.  

This easy one mile walk includes stopping inside a couple of the pubs for an opportunity to purchase refreshments.

Meet at 2pm at The Talbot pub, Bridgefoot. An hour and a half approximately.

Available dates: Sunday 26th May, Sunday 9th June, Sunday 28th July, Sunday 18th August and Sunday 15 December. All start at 2pm.

Talk: The Strutts, Cotton Textiles and Enslavement by Dr Susanne Seymour

Although the Strutts were supporting the anti-slavery movement at home,

their cotton purchases were sourced mainly from the slave plantations of

Carriacou in the West Indies and Brazil. Dr Susanne Seymour of

Nottingham University has been researching the sources of the cotton

used at the Belper Mills and traced the plantations where the Strutts

sourced the cotton.

Back for 2024 – Opera-lele warmly invites you to join them for their updated Opera-lele Christmas Show which is suitable for all the family. The show will feature sizzling operatic highlights alongside festive favourites and carols for all to sing and play along. Come along and get that festive feeling at the jolliest singalong in town! It’s the sure-fire way to sprinkle some sparkling seasonal spirit on a dark December day.

Opera-lele is a unique comedy music act specialising in performing music from opera and musical theatre accompanied by the emotionally powerful yet understated twang of their ukuleles! ​Having trained as singers at the Royal College of Music and Goldsmiths College in London, George Bartle and Amanda Harkett have gone on individually to forge careers for themselves as entertainers of the highest calibre.
