Belper’s Wartime Secret Walk

This circular walk looks at Belper's little-known wartime secrets. During the Second World War, Belper played a key role in the Allied victory. However, as those "in the know" never really talked about what they were doing, many people today have no idea of just how important a place it was. Even many of those living in the town at the time have no idea of what was happening right under their noses. This walk tells the story of the secret wartime work that took place in Belper and visits the sites involved.

Distance: 3.5 miles. Duration: 2.5 hours. Price: £5.00

Start point: Shortlands Car Park, Chesterfield Road (opposite St Peter's Church),

Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 1FB. – Start time: 10:00am.

When the faces of one hundred plus people leaving a concert are, without exception, beaming from ear to ear, with many eagerly clutching their newly purchased and signed CDs, it stands a good chance that the evening has been a successful one. Such was the case last night as Ranagri made a triumphant return to St. Edith Hall'. David Pratt FATEA Magazine

Alt folk band Ranagri are 4 Irish and English musicians; combining Voices, Guitar, Bouzouki, Flutes, Whistles, Harp/Electric Harp, Bodhrán/Drums.

Since forming, Ranagri have recorded three studio albums at Grammy Award Winning Record Label Stockfisch Records, with their latest record ‘Playing For Luck’ released in 2019. Acclaimed previous albums are 'Fort of the Hare'. 'The Great Irish Songbook' with pop legend Tony Christie, 'VOICES’ - recorded at Real World Studios and produced by Grammy-nominated producer Graeme Pleeth, and ‘Tradition’, which were both released on Goatskin Records.

Festival performances include Cambridge, Gate to Southwell, Wath, Lyme Folk Weekend, Trinity, Bloom (Dublin) and Purbeck. No strangers to large venues, Ranagri have performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall, Fairfield Halls, The Union Chapel, Buxton Opera House and Camac Harp Festival in France to name a few. Combining their love for world music, they have collaborated with top Indian musician Kuljit Bhamra OBE, and members of Britten Sinfonia at The Bhavan Centre, London.

Touring with Justin Currie (of Del Amitri) at Islington Assembly Hall, Perth Concert Hall, Holmfirth Picturedrome and Cambridge Junction, followed by a tour of Scotland and Germany saw Ranagri writing & recording 'Playing For Luck' released in 2019

2020 - was a very testing year for all, with the cancellation of tours in both Britain and Europe.

Ranagri bunkered down in the studio to write and record their next album TRADITION II, due for release in November 2021
